Focus on your most recent work experienceMost resumes will benefit from a chronological format, as it shows your career progression throughout the years. Notice how Jakes resume sample places the most focus on his current position as Vice President of Human Resources. Spend the most time here, with your current or most recent job, including details that will show the recruiter what your role entails and what type of company it is (big? small? non-profit?). This rule applies even if you havent been at your current job for very long the only exception is if your current job is unrelated to your career goals or executive summary.6. Quantify your achievementsActions speak louder than words but on a resume, numbers can speak volumes. This is especially important as a senior-level professional, as youre probably handling things like budgets, department goals, or teams of people. Instead of leading with a vague statement, be specific, like Jake does in the resume sample above. Notice how he talks about the annual savings to the company driven by his leadership, as well as how many offices and staff members hes responsible for. 7. Use a two-page resume lengthIf youre surprised by this tip, youre not alone. Its a common myth that resumes should be restricted to one page Just dont get too lengthy. Two pages is a great rule-of-thumb for resume length that will allow you the space to showcase your work history and, more importantly, your accomplishments (quantified, of course).Bump your earlier and entry-level jobs to the second page and include only the most important details. Furthermore, make sure the positions youre including are relevant. If youre applying for an executive-level healthcare position, like Jake is, recruiters wont care that your first job out of college was scooping ice cream at the mall.Having trouble deciding what to keep? A two-page limitation will force you to decide which details are the most important and which details can be left out. Put yourself in the recruiters shoes, and go line-by-line through your resume. Is everything relevant and compelling? Great leise having trouble? This leads us to our next tip 8. Include only your past 15 years of experienceAt this point in your career, youve built up quite the history of companies, positions, and responsibilities. How will you fit it all in? Fortunately, you dont have to. Instead, restrict your resume to experience garnered in the last 15 years, give or take. If there are positions outside of this time frame that you feel are relevant, you can include those in a Prior Experience section just forgo the lengthy details. Still running out of room? Feel free to indicate a Career Note toward the end and list out noteworthy titles or company names in a more condensed format.9. Move your education to the end of the resumeAs a recent college graduate, your degree is often one of your biggest selling points.A few years into your career, it ma y have been your relevant work experience. But now that youve worked your way up the ranks, its time to shift the focus of your resume. Move your education details to the end of the resume, with the exception of any advanced degrees (see tip 1).10. But its not that simple although it is fast. It took me only seven seconds to assess your confidence, competence, status, likeability, warmth, and, yes, your trustworthiness.You cant stop me (or anyone, for that matter) from making unterstellung snap decisions. The human brain is wired that way.Whenever we meet new people, our brain automatically and immediately begins to categorize them in some way male or female, same or different, friend or foe in order to predict what is likely to happen next. Because few of us have the mental agility to consciously perceive and process all the factors needed to make these calculations, we rely on estimates, or guesses, based on our past experiences and preconceptions. While these mental shortcuts work reasonably well most of the time, they also leave us vulnerable to a variety of judgment traps.When I decided not to trust you, my snap judgment was influenced by the category I put you in and the traits I assigned to that category. In your case, I labeled you as untrustworthy for five reasons - none of which had anything to do with your actual trustworthiness.1. You werent like meThere is a well-known principle in social psychology that people define themselves in terms of social groupings Any group that people feel part of is an in-group and any group that excludes them an out-group. (You know, its the us and them division.)Similarities make us feel comfortable. We assume we know what in-group people are like theyre good people, like we are. Differences, on the other hand, make us a little wary. When we see people as part of an out-group, we are more likely to judge them as untrustworthy.Because you didnt remind me of myself, I saw you as part of the less trustworthy out-group.2. You behaved suspiciouslyWe all have a tendency to make judgments about another persons integrity based on our ideas of appropriate behavior. This shows up in lie detection when we believe that we know how wed act if we were telling the truth and that other truthful people would/should behave the same way.You didnt act the way I would when we met. When you said you were happy to meet me, you didnt smile or offer to shake my hand. Because of this off-putting behavior, I became suspicious of your motives.3. You had low eyebrowsBy studying peoples reactions to a sortiment of artificially generated faces, researchers in Princetons psychology department found that faces with high inner eyebrows, pronounced cheekbones, and a wide chin struck people as trustworthy. Conversely, faces with low inner brows, shallow cheekbones and a thin chin were deemed untrustworthy.Of course, I realize that eyebrow shapes and cheekbone prominence have no relationship with trustworthiness. But the moment I saw you, I unconsciously overrode my rational mind to make this instinctive judgment.4. You didnt make eye contactThe biggest body language myth about deception is that liars avoid eye contact. While its true that some liars find it difficult to lie while looking you in the eyes, other liars, especially the most brazen, actually overcompensate to prove that they are being truthful by making strong, direct eye contact and holding it steadily.You may have been shy, or an introvert, or from a culture in which direct eye contact is considered intimidating or impolite. But all I noticed was that you didnt look at me when you spoke, and that made me think you were being deceptive or, at least, not authentically invested in what you were saying.5. You had your hands in your pocketsHand and arm gestures are not only an adjunct to speech gesturing may have been our oldest method of communication. Researchers now believe that early humans communicated using a form of mime. Somewhere in our evolutionary history speech took over f rom gesture as the main form of communication, but gesture still retains its power as illustrators and trust indicators.While I would have evaluated your open palm gestures as a nonverbal signal that you had nothing to hide, your concealed hands made it difficult for me to trust you.But now that I know you, I see that you are candid, honest, and highly trustworthy. Ticketing agents must be able to stand for long stretches and lift heavy bags and other checked items. Salary According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), agents earned a zentralwert wage of $17.90/hr. in May 2018. The top 10% earned $31.14/hr. or mora while the bottom 10% earned $11.23/hr. or less. Customer Service Representative Customer service representatives for airports or airlines respond to requests for special assistance by passengers, help passengers to track lost baggage, and provide information about services at the airport and participating airlines. They may be assigned either to customer service desks or to airline call centers. Problem-solving skills and finesse in dealing with disgruntled passengers are required in this role. Salary Customer service representatives earned a median wage of $16.23/hr. in May 2018, according to the BLS. Female leaders can counter this by hiring more women, but as it stands, women comprise only 25 percent of executive- and senior-level officials and managers, and count for just six percent of CEOs (despite making up near ly half of the workforce in the U.S.).Youve got to listen.As one of the few women leaders in tech-related industries, Mieko Kusano, senior director of Experience Strategy at Sonos, often sees the tangible benefits of having more women at the table, especially when it comes to sharing and supporting each others ideas.Other women pick up the thread, Kusano says. If you make a point and somebody else in the room says a followup point, rather than an interruption, you have a better forum to amplify your voice.Its not just women who should be included - for office cultures to work most efficiently, they should be made up of as many diverse voices as possible. Not only is diversity good for morale, but it can also benefit a businesss bottom line. Studies have shown that ethnically and racially diverse companies are 35 percent more likely to have higher financial returns than those that are not. Because diversity isnt just about checking boxes - a workplace thrives when its teams bring a wide range of experiences to their decision-making and goals.Its like a jigsaw puzzle, says Jarrett. You dont just want the smartest people, you want the best team - complementing skill sets, complementing life experiences, complementary perspectives. We found that sitting in a room with people who had very different perspectives and life experiences enhanced the decision making process.Once a leader builds the best team, a secondary challenge is earning that teams trust. Effective leaders who listen to their employees, admit their own mistakes, and demonstrate their capability on a daily fundament are more likely to be able to create a workplace that every employee, no matter their background, wants to invest in.Trust is such an important value - especially creatively.For Chloe Arnold, cofounder of the female tap dance band Syncopated Ladies, there would be no creative output without the investment and trust from each member of her team. The success of every dancer and the group as a whole is quite physically interconnected - if one dancer misses a step, whole formations might be thrown off. Cultivating belief in one another, and her as the groups leader, is integral to the creative possibilities of the whole enterprise.Trust is a really important value, Arnold says. Especially creatively. If a dancer doesnt feel like you trust them, then theyre gonna make decisions based around what they think you want. Waiting for me at the Brandenburg Airport welches my new best friend, a driver with my name on an iPad. Twenty minutes later I pulled up to the Ritz-Carlton and was honigwein by Ugur the doorman who greeted me with Welcome to your home in Berlin. Located in the dynamic Potsdamer Platz quarter, it is perfectly situated overlooking the Tiergarten, the citys famous park, and close to attractions like the Berlin Wall, Museum Island, historic landmarks and shopping.The Ritzs grandest suite is the 3100-square-foot penthouse for $17,000 a night. Mine was a more modest corner suite with foyer, dressing area with extravagant closet space and a luxurious gold marble bath with a heated floor. The generously proportioned living room in shades of green with splashes of deep purple had a comfortable seating area and two expansive windows with sweeping city views.The Art of Cocktails and PerfumeryThe hotel is known for its Curtain Club, a classic, paneled cock tail lounge hidden away from the bustling city on an upper floor, and The Lounge, renowned for high tea. An artist-in-residence at the Lwenpalais in Berlin, Colette knows her way around, and she wanted to show me the citys cutting-edge venues and important historical sites.Gallery CrawlWe kicked off my Berlin weekend with a gallery crawl to check out the citys vibrant art scene. First stop was the Knig Galerie. Housed in a former church, its one of Berlins major galleries. The wildly impressive structure is dominated by a cathedral height room where on this night we viewed an avant-garde video piece. Next was the Sprth Magers Gallery where we saw a terrific installation by John Bock. The artist had created a series of African inspired forms and huts around the triple-height space. The artist, covered in tribal tattoos, hovered stories above us peering down and working on miniature artworks.We continued our crawl at Seven Star Gallery, an edgy spot that is literally half underground. Earlier, there had been an avant-garde musical performance by Bob Rutman at a venue upstairs, and the gallery invited him to play afterward. His instruments, fashioned from string and sheets of tin, made mysterious, eerie sounds that filled the cavernous, candle-lit space. The gallery doubles as a bar, and a lively group gathered, talking art, music and design.The KitKat ClubAfter fortifying ourselves with a little goulash at a charming local place, we decided it was time to brave the KitKat Club, renowned for its techno and trance music, and its, uh, uninhibited party atmosphere. To clarify, guests are permitted to engage in sex acts openly at this venue. And they do, but not me Im a voyeur to the core.Opened in 1994 by Austrian pornographic filmmaker Simon Thaur and his partner, Kirsten Kruger, this place is named after the Kit Kat Club burlesque theater in the musical Cabaret.Be advised there is a strict dress code and I dont mean black tie. Patrons must wear leather, latex, fetish, kinky or just look gorgeous to get in.Tip if you show u p in street clothes, try ditching your shirt.The Boros BunkerOn Saturday, we hit the Boros Bunker, a gallery in a former Nazi bunker thats home to the Boros collection, founded by Christian and Karen Boros to showcase their contemporary art collection. While searching for the space, the Boros considered all kinds of abandoned spaces, including schools, hospitals and even swimming pools, and were so smitten when they found what they call surely the ugliest building in Berlin that they moved in. They now reside in a 5900-square-foot glass-walled apartment above the gallery.You need an appointment to visit and the exhibition changes every four years. A tour, led by an extremely knowledgeable guide, takes 90 minutes and is definitely worth it. I participated in creating a work by sticking black tape from a large pile onto a mural, and later, made an artwork of a knife by stamping a paper with a wood block, an instant memento of Berlin and The Bunker.The Clrchens BallroomAfterward, we we re starved and headed to Clrchens Ballroom. The Clrchens is an institution in Berlin, a restaurant where they stage concerts, everything from gypsy music to classical. Locals of all ages dance everything from the tango to the cha-cha. Built in 1913, it was rescued from the wrecking ball in 2005 by its current owners, who left it artfully faded, complete with chipped paint and cracked mirrors. Check out the piece de resistance, the mirrored ballroom upstairs. Later, we took a short walk down Bodestrasse, peering in the windows of a dozen galleries this is Berlins SoHo.Museum IslandA side trip to Museum Island did not disappoint. Archaeologically monumental, the island contains five museums Some of the buildings suffered damage during World War II and only reopened as recently as 2009. The entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage site.The Pergamon Museum is one of Germanys most popular museums, and for good reason. Here youll find monumental buildings including an enormous altar that was likely part of a temple and the Ishtar ausgang of Babylon, built by King Nebuchadnezzar in 575 BC. Dedicated to the goddess Ishtar, it was one of the original Seven Wonders of the World and was reconstructed here in 1930, using the original bricks.Then it was on to the Neues Museum, where we found more ancient relics, this time from Egypt, including the iconic bust of Queen Nefertiti from 1345 BC. It is one of the most copied works of ancient Egypt, and that makes her one of the most famous women of the ancient world. And yes, its the subject of a longstanding dispute- Egypt wants it back.Across the street is the huge Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, a Berlin landmark. Hit by bombs during the war, the damaged spire remains, and the ground floor is now a memorial hall.Checkpoint CharlieAs most visitors to Berlin do, I stopped at Checkpoint Charlie, the most-trafficked crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. After reunification, Checkpoint Charlie became a tourist attraction and is now located in the Allied Museum. We walked a few blocks to landsee what was left of the original Berlin Wall. That was pretty grim, but the tales of the ingenious ways that people escaped were impressive. My favorite was the girl who fit into two adjoining suitcases and entered West Berlin via train.Soho House BerlinDinner that night was at SoHo House Berlin. The members-only club is situated in an imposing building that was originally a department store. In 1933, the stores Jewish owners were pushed out, and the space became the headquarters of the Reich Youth Leadership organization. Today, members can choose from various dining options, the Club Bar, a screening room, fitness facility and spa, plus a rooftop bar, pool and kitchen. Its also a hotel, offering 65 rooms, 20 apartments and four spacious lofts. A favorite of celebrities, the legendary Soho House discretion also applies in Berlin, lips- and phones- are sealed while on the premises. The club f loors are warm and cozy. And I can attest, the roast chicken and champagne are delicious.Berghain, The Worlds Top ClubOnce the clock struck 2 am we headed to Berghain, the top night club in the world which has a brutal door policy. Getting in was harder than getting into Studio 54 when it was at its pinnacle. But Colettes glamorous friend Sasha, in black velvet opera cape, whisked us past two thousand freezing people right to the most beastly doorman on the planet, and voila we were in.No exaggeration, this dance club is exclusive and the skinhead door gods arent even bribable. The Telegraph even assigned a reporter to write about the experience of getting in not the club itself, just getting in. (The reporter didnt make the grade after waiting forever in the cold. When the door staff told him to forget it, he asked why, and they said, Because we decided).Holocaust MemorialOn Sunday, we went to the heartbreaking Holocaust Memorial, a memorial to the slaughtered Jews. This monumenta l gut-wrenching installation consists of more than 2,700 concrete slabs laid in a grid pattern on a sloping field. Resembling coffins, as you walk among the slabs, you feel immersed in a maze, a forest of stone. It is a profoundly moving experience. The memorial opened on May 10, 2005, 60 years after the end of WWII. There is an underground Place of Information, bearing the names of three million Holocaust victims.Charlottenburg Sanssouci PalacesIf you have a little extra time, the fabulously lavish Charlottenburg Palace is one of the top attractions. Dating from the 17th Century, its baroque interiors and formal gardens are stunning. The largest palace in Berlin, it was damaged during the war but has been meticulously restored.Similarly, if you have a spare afternoon, take a 45-minute drive to see Sanssouci Palace, the summer home of Frederick the Great, which was built in 1745. It is so beautiful and is the German counterpart of Versailles.Brandenburg Gate Reichstag BuildingBe s mart and have your concierge book a visit to the Reichstag, Berlins parliament, just to see the Norman Foster-designed dome. This glass space reminds me of the Guggenheim Museum with its spiral walkway overlooking the citys monuments. The building was heavily damaged during World War II and was closed off by the Berlin Wall during the Cold War era. Artists Christo and Jean-Claude famously wrapped it in 1995, before reconstruction began, drawing millions of visitors.Nearby is the Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlins most important sites, and a must-see. Built in 1791 by Prussian King Frederick William II, throughout history it has been home to historical events and became a symbol of post-war divided Germany when it was closed off by the Berlin Wall. Later, the gate became a symbol of the countrys reunification in 1990.The lichterstadt Bar Caf EinsteinOne of the citys artsy hot spots, this cozy bote is as trendy as it looks, from the neon sign outside to the art-splashed interior. A hub for art, music and film, the Paris has attracted stars like David Bowie, Madonna and Iggy Pop over the years. Try the lamb chops or the bouillabaisse.Another landmark is Caf Einstein, one of the most beloved coffee houses in Berlin, housed in a building that miraculously survived the bombing that leveled the surrounding area. The food is great, and the strudel is out of this world.The Lwenpalais, Starke Foundation ExhibitionsThe Lwenpalais, a magnificent manor house built in 1903, has a storied history, and in 1930 was divided into flats for well-known actors and scientists of the era. Flash forward to 1987, when Jrg Peter Starke inherited the estate and founded the Starke Foundation. He invited artists to use the apartments as studios and began mounting exhibitions. The Lwenpalais quickly became a popular venue for art lovers.My friend and Berlin tour guide, Colette, has an artist residency there. In her art-strewn studio, she has created one of her famous boudoir interiors. This magical space, draped in pale pink fabrics and tulle, houses sculptures and paintings including new works based on her recent African safari.
